Frazetta's Looie Lazybones

Here is a splash page that is currently being auctioned by Russ Cochran.

Can anyone identify this page from an issue of THRILLING COMICS in the late 40's? I've never seen it before and I suspect it might be unpublished. I thought I'd throw it out there for those with a substantial Frazetta comic book collection.

Russ' Auction site:

  1. Mystery has been solved. I received this email:

    Hi Dave:

The splash page for "Looie Lazybones" that is currently up on Russ Cochran's auction site is an unpublished splash. Actually it is a rejected splash for the Looie Lazybones story, "A Bride For Kissin' Tim," from THRILLING COMICS #71, April 1949. Frank showed me this page when I visited them in 1970 and we were discussing Looie Lazybones and some of his other Standard work.

    Thanks again, Bob!

  2. Thanks, Bob, for the exact information, and thanks to Doc Dave for posting it here. There are ten Frazetta originals on my site for the auction which ends February 16. In addition, there is a Carl Barks oil painting, a Graham Ingels horror story, and nearly 100 Frank King
GASOLINE ALLEY ORIGINALS, including many from 1921, the first year that Skeezix appeared.

  3. I see that Russ Cochran is also auctioning off two of the "Nina" panels with the opening bid starting at only $950:

I say 'only' when you consider that Frazetta's pen-and-ink cover for Weird Science Fantasy #29 sold for $380,000.

Amazing price for those Nina panels!

  4. They won't sell that cheaply! Serious collectors wait until the last hour to bid.

    They are gems!

  5. Hi Dave! There is a whopping 256 page large format hardback full color book "Frazetta Funny Stuff" compiled by me of all the Louie Lazybones, the Standard funny animal comics and text illustrations.
